Every year our seventh and eighth grade students complete a Science Fair Project under the direction of Mrs. Chirdon and Mrs. MacCamy. Students select a topic of interest. They then formulate a hypothesis on their topic and find a way to measure and test their theory. Students collect data, organize their data in an Excel Spreadsheet, create graphs of their data, create a PowerPoint highlighting their procedures and results, and finally they present their work in front of a panel of judges.
All students are encouraged and challenged to participate in PJAS. Students take their Science Fair projects and refine them to present at Duquesne University where students can earn awards and scholarships. Students who place first at Duquesne will move on to State competitions held at Penn State every spring. Because of the time and dedication put into these projects by staff, parents of student participants, and alumni, our students are well prepared and are very successful when they present at Duquesne University.
