Every year students in grades fourth through sixth select a topic that they are interested in learning more about. Teachers work together to guide students through the research process from finding books on a library field trip, finding reliable online resources, taking notes, creating an outline, writing a rough draft, editing, and finally submitting a final copy complete with a bibliography. The growth students, parents, and teachers see over this three year period is not only reflected in the end product but in the student’s confidence levels preparing them for Science Fair in seventh grade.
Not only do students experience research and writing, they are using technology skills and having fun learning about a new topic. Along with their research paper, students create a 3D model on their topic. Their 3D model is presented in class and one evening in March to the entire school community as the capstone presentation and completion of Curriculum Fair.
